Pomigliano d'Arco, 2022

From the series Decomposizione Bellica

Fungi decompose and draw energy from dead matter. They assimilate and return nutrients through a complex network that connects multiple organisms into an incredible sprawling structure that propagates into every soil. This network called mycelium relies on enzymes, viruses and hyphae that specialize in digesting pollutants, consolidating soil and providing nutrients to plants in a constant multi-directional exchange.
Nuclear tests, weapons, soldiers, propaganda posters, historical photos; all these through the action of fungi are stripped of their violent component, acquiring a new function. War is thus found decomposed down to the basic elements of matter, restored to the world according to a new order of meaning, powerful and harmless at the same time.
